Consent Culture Workshops

Our consent culture workshops are a core aspect of Justice for Women

What is a Consent Culture Workshop?

Our Consent Culture Workshops offer guided discussions to explore what consent looks like, how to obtain it, and what to do if consent is not obtained.

What information do they include?

Workshops include a 2 hour presentation with group discussion and participation at the core of it. We go over various topics related to consent and sexual violence including consent and the law, types of sexual violence, rape culture, how to safely intervene, responding to disclosures as well as what supports are available and they can be accessed.

Who has to take them?

All University of Manitoba Student Union (UMSU) Recognized Organizations such as faculty associations are be required to ensure that at least 85% of their membership has attended one of our Workshops. In 2020 our workshop expanded so that all University of Manitoba Bison Athletes are required to take our worksop.

First year students have the option of signing up for a shorter version of our workshop during Prep Week.

Currently our group is working towards making Consent Culture Workshops a requirement for UMSU recognized student clubs and the UMSU Board and Directors. Our aim is to one day be able to extend this workshop to the greater student body.

How can I get involved?

Our wonderful team of volunteer facilitators help us provide these workshops to the greater student body. We are always looking for new facilitators! We will support you with all the training and materials for presenting the workshop.
